Reflect on the role of the APRN as it relates to collaboration between your role as a Family Nurse Practitioner and the nursing informatics specialist.

Nursing Informatics is considered the stethoscope of technology, similar to APRN's when they are using the stethoscope to assess their patients to make a clinical decisions, informatics utilizes tools to improve systems in healthcare and allowing data to be used to make life saving decisions for patients (Boehning and Punsalan, 2023).

The role of the APRN as a Family Nurse Practitioner provides delivery of comprehensive care to all individuals across the lifespan. APRN's prioritize health promotion, disease prevention, and learn how to manage both acute and chronic conditions. Their role involved assessing patients, diagnosing, interpreting and implementing care plan to treat the patients they see. Through these interventions, APRN's are able to be primary care providers, and are able to give tailored care to patients in need (Boehning and Punsalan, 2023).

In contrast, the Nursing Informatics Specialist, incorporate the science of nursing with information and data to manage several different technological aspects of patient care. These aspects include but are no limited to: EHRs, data analytics, patient monitoring, integrity of healthcare information and making technology processes more streamline (ANA, 2024). Crucial skills to possess include: being proficient in EHRs, being able to quickly adapt to emerging technology and skill sin data, good communication skills and to possess the ability to advocate for ethics in nursing and patient privacy and safety (ANA, 2024).

Three common roles in Nursing Informatics are:nursing informatics specialists, clinical informatics nurse and informatics nurse consultant (ANA, 2024, para 4).

"Nursing time is expensive. When nursing informatics can improve data handling, other makes it easier for nurses to provide quality patients care more efficiently and effectively" (ANA, 2024, para 4).

APRNs enhance patient care through using real time patient data and personalizing care plans, Specialists ensure that the applications and tools we utilize with the patient and for the patient are effective, efficient and user friendly to all ages (ANA,2024). Informatics allows for better communication between all interdisciplinary team members by way of health portals, support groups and rounding to streamline information to the patient. Both roles support utilized evidence based practice to give FNP's the most up to date clinical guidelines and research to better support patient outcomes (ANA, 2024). Nursing informatics and APRN's work together to improver technological processes and patient care.

In Summary, Informatics gives Nurses and other team members the support to create opportunities to make patient care safe. Healthy People 2030, focuses on "helping health care providers and patients access health IT and use it more effectively. People who can access electronic health information can better track and manage their health care. But accessing and understanding electronic health information can be difficult."(ODPHP, para 1). HealthCare in 2030...

Reflection:

I think healthcare will take awhile to evolve, concepts that are just now taking effect in U.S. medicine now have been in other countries for quite some time. As a whole the U.S. is behind in technological advancements in healthcare, considering how many resources are available to APRNs. We do not utilize technology to its full potential and that is discouraging. I believe there is a big future and place for informatics as long as other specialists and APRN's create a community and space for it to thrive and have trust in advancement within health care processes to make patients safer.
